Make custom views available via the cloud, to Android, iPhone, etc.
Custom views allow us great precision in seeing our data. For those of us who are using custom views, the 'canned' views available on the android and iphone are near-useless in comparison. Instead of many possible views on the android screen, none of which are very useful, how much more functional it would be to be able to import custom views via the cloud, and choose which views we would like displayed on the android or iphone main screen.
Custom views implemented in MLO on all platforms. You can import/export views between MLO on iOS/Android/Windows.

As of MLO-Android v2 custom views implemented on Android.

Todd: Current versions of MLO/Android have the ability to create and use custom views. MLO on Windows, Android or IOS can export views which can then be imported to other devices. *Almost* any view usable on Windows is usable on Android, with minor incompatibilities on levels of grouping and maybe a few other areas. Using Sync to manage views is not available or announced despite many requests: it does not seem likely. -Dwight

Can we expect this any time soon for Android?

I agree that full, automatic syncing of views across all platforms would be fantastic! While I can not speak for the developer (I'm just a fellow customer), my hunch/hope is that the various improvements we're seeing (eg, being able to import custom views to iPhone and eventually Android) are incremental steps towards an eventual syncing system.
If I were breaking things down into steps I'd probably follow a similar path (to the end goal of automatic View syncing across platforms). Doing it in stages can be really helpful from a development standpoint. I just hope my hypothesis is correct and that we'll eventually have full, automatic syncing of views. :)

I simply and totally agree with David Jade. Automatic sync of views is the one solution.

I am thankful that custom view are now on iPad and iPhone but what I really want to see is a way to keep them in sync across Windows, iPhone, and iPad. It is a major pain to have to export/import views. You often end up with duplicates and a mess to clean up (I typically re-define some of the built in view names, which I think causes this). So please, make view syncing easier across Windows, iPhone, iPad, etc... I want to keep my custom views in sync just like the rest of my data.

It doesn't make sense that different versions of MLO have their data stored in such a way that it won't easily sync between different platforms.
It seems like it would be much easier to have a single standardized database scheme, preferably based on an open standard that is cross-compatible such as XML. The MLO apps should act similar to CMS systems like wordpress/drupal where the data is kept separate from the visual elements so that you can swap between themes that display the data differently.

Thank you very much, Dwight. You told me two important things: the most important of them is that a beta performing custom views on Android is already on test: Yahoo!!!! Thank you for this big news! The second one is that *almost* every "sensed" view will be possible also on portable devices. I trust on you, and I am now more and more excited and waiting for this BIG improvement (also for a funny reason: my old mobile phone is not a Android yet, and I am posticipating to buy an Android one till this big feature will be available on Android - ok, I could also buy something in the meanwhile...). Thank you, and have a good BETA-test WORK!

Hi, Roberto. I'm a beta tester for MLO/Android and as such, I've had the opportunity to work with custom views on Android. The developers are continuing to improve it, and I have not seen how it currently works, so I can't comment on any specifics. But I can tell you that I agree that Windows and Mobile use incompatible view architectures. In my opinion, this entry in User Voice is a request that the developers find a way, whatever it might be, to eliminate the incompatibilities. I know that the developers consider that a challenging request.
To address your specific concern, with the version of mobile views I saw, I founf mobile views easier to understand and manage than windows views, however windows views had the ability to express more complex and powerful filters. It is possible for me to create view requirements that are easily addressed on Windows and impossible on Mobile (for example, all tasks due next February.) Fortunately none of these are views that would ever be very important to me. I have built lots and lots of custom views and use many of them daily and every one that has ever been important to me has been pretty easy to port to mobile. (disclaimer again: developers are still developing so anything could change). I hope this addresses your question.

"MLO Admin" answered to Dwight (July,18th) saying that it is technically not possible now to sync views between platforms since they are using different technology inside to produce filtered lists.
Sorry, I wish to better understand: does it mean that it will be also impossible, using the technologies available on the other platforms, to develop custom views that replicate the same behavior (same filters and combination of them) as those on Windows? In other words, are the portable platforms not able to recreate the same filters criteria? If so, I think that we must forget to recreate our custom views also on portable devices... Hope I am wrong...! The power of MLO is, on my opinion, the custom filters, as by using them I save most of the time!

I'm very glad to hear that a new version for Android with configurable custom views is in the works! :) And I also understand the limitations of how difficult (if not impossible) it would be to actually sync custom views between different platforms. In light of that, I have two suggestions/requests:
1) Enable syncing of custom views between devices of the *same* platform. Personally, I'd appreciate this on Windows (ie, syncing views between multiple computers running Windows, as is requested here: https://mlo.uservoice.com/forums/9235-general/suggestions/1428377-sync-all-data-outline-todo-views-formatting-et ) *and* on Android, as I have two Android devices and it will be a major pain to have to manually recreate views on one device that I have created on the other. I understand that syncing views between Windows & Android, Android & iOS, Windows & Mac, would be a nightmare, but if we can sync views between devices of the same type (ie, all Android sync views with each other) that would be fantastic!2) Since it is difficult/impossible to sync views between different devices, it could be helpful if there were a way that we could view a copy of the logic we used for a given view on another platform when we're creating a new view on another device. For example, once it is possible to create custom views on Android, if I could pull up a list of the custom views I've created on other platforms (eg, Windows) and display the logic for a given view to be able to use as a guide while I manually created a similar view on my Android device. So this would basically be a one-way sync of the views' logic to other platforms. We'd still have to manually create the view on the other platform, but at least we'd be able to see what particulars we used when creating it on another platform.
Thanks! :)

I can totally live without expanding this suggestion to include a view sync... since it's a difficult issue and most of my complex Windows views would look terrible on my tablet.
Just having options to change things like the days in view (instead of the fixed 7 or 30) would be a wonderful feature!!

It's very encouraging to see MLO Admin's response that configurable custom views are planned for some mobile platforms. But please note that this recommendation specifically calls for the ability to synchronize custom view definitions across platforms. I believe that this would include the ability to synchronize custom views between two different Windows computers which have synchronized MLO profiles.

I just commented on another item that was related to this. Thank you very much. I am a paying user of both Android Pro and Windows Pro and it would be a great feature to have the ability to at least edit views in Android or even better to sync views from desktop to mobile.

Thank you very much! I hope that the configurable custom views will be shared / synchronized with the PC version and viceversa.
Having this will for sure make me considering to buy also the Android version of MLO! -

Good news! I love plans... and I love it when our IT folks plan... so ... when do you think we might have a beta?!!
-
Dwight commented
Hi, E P. It seems as though you think MLO does not support custom views. MLO for Windows supports a powerful view editor and a broad selection of customizable views. There is a lot of user demand for customizable views in the mobile platforms and discussions in the forums to suggest that developers areinclined to implement this. In my opinion, none of that is directly relevant to this recommendation, which involves the ability to synchronize custom views across differing platforms via the cloud.
