A gantt chart currently will not provide a realistic visualisation of any project because MLO ignores dependencies when setting start and due dates. It is quite possible in MLO to have 'Paint Room' start before 'Buy Paint', on which it is dependant. This creates a situation which would be ridiculous on a gantt and would only visualise something which is impossible to carry out. Unless dependencies are properly implemented the whole function would be pointless. There is already a suggestion to make dependencies work properly which has hardly any votes at all. I suggest people provide more support for that first and take things one step at a time.

I remain in the dark as to why people want a calendar view at all. Surely the whole point of a GTD approach, or even just the calculated score that makes MLO unique, is that it works out what the next priority is based on the information you give it. You then just need to do these tasks in order.
Putting some task to be done on Friday is just wishful thinking, it doesn't mean it will happen on Friday, other things will get in the way, the tasks set for Wednesday and Thursday will take longer (or less time) than you thought, and in no time your idealised plan for Friday is redundant.
I think, if the people wanting to see how their week might pan out really thought about it, what they really need is something more like the 'Total effort required' suggestions (already here but with far less votes), just to see if they're going to meet their deadlines, or how much they might get done by Friday.
My concern is that a calendar will get implemented (after all it has a lot of votes), but a total workload calculation will not. That will leave anyone wanting to use MLO for planning having to manually add a whole load of tasks to a completely fictitious 'weekly plan' just to see if it might be possible, when all that's really required is to add up the hours.

Those many contributors asking for a gantt style display or calendar might need to give a bit more support to this idea. Without it you gantt charts won't make any sense will they?

Two things. IF it hasn't already been thought of, the best place to put this data would be in the summary bar of a 'group' in those views that are grouped. That way you could group your tasks by whatever criteria you like and see how much time it wil take to do them all.
Also, when you export a selection to spreadsheet .xml file, one of the cells actually has the totals for min time and max time, so something's working these things out already, we just need a place to put it.
