link the importance level of each task to its position in the outline so that we can assign importance relative to the other tasks
It would be great to be able to arrange the outline by importance so that we could increase or decrease the importance of each task by moving it up or down in comparison to its sibling tasks. We need to know the importance of each task relative to other tasks in order to know which task to work on, so we need to be able to assign relative importance within a group. We should have the option of having the importance level of each task adjust when sibling tasks are added or removed.

This would be a nice usability enhancement. I also strongly encourage that approach of treating the importance of sibling tasks as *relative* importance.
I posted a related idea based on a new Derived-Importance computed field (taking ancestors into account) which would also treat sibling importance as relative:

Maybe the importance level of the first and last task in each group could be manually adjusted and then the user would have the option of having the importance level of the remaining tasks in the group automatically distributed evenly between the importance levels assigned to those first and last tasks.
